SSAC Work Groups | Advisors: 2005 - 2006

Enriched Curriculum

(Jake Foster, Juan Tapia)
Focus on Arts and Physical Education. Establish two sub groups to address 1) the importance of Arts Education and 2) physical education credits earned through participation in sports. Research current options for: art education and credits for sports, share information with schools regarding options, develop ideas for future legislation.

Legislative

(Erica Champagne, Eileen Robinson)
Focus on currently filed bills addressing student rights and discrimination based on socio-economic status. Gather information from students who have been affected, provide testimony to support passage of legislation, work with other SSAC groups regarding their legislative ideas.

Health, Safety, Nutrition

(Jenny Caldwell Curtin, Kristen McKinnon)
Promote awareness of current health issues including food in schools, sex education, teen pregnancy, etc. Create a promotional campaign for schools to use in conjunction with their curriculum to update based on the frameworks.

Public Relations

(Nate MacKinnon, LeRoy Wong)
Maximize student representation across the state by increasing student involvement on the regional councils, develop a website for SAC, continue to write and distribute a newsletter, provide PR support for other SSAC work groups.

School Climate

(Nate Makdad, Sally Teixeira)
Update "school climate" booklet for distribution to students, promote student ideas to improve school climate such as big brother/big sister // high school student mentor middle school student, peer mediation and community service opportunities.

Student Rights

(Rob O'Donnell)
Educate students about their rights, provide training and information to regional councils, develop an effective medium to spread awareness beyond the council, utilize information from previous years to focus on specific issues, "Check It Out".
