Welcome to the Office of Literacy and Humanities! We are here to support educators in their work with students and families. We partner with and support the capacity of educators to provide an excellent education in Literacy and Humanities to EVERY student in Massachusetts. Our vision is for ALL students in Massachusetts to experience an excellent education in Literacy and Humanities, in which every student:
- Masters the rigorous standards and disciplinary skills set forth in the Massachusetts Frameworks for ELA and Literacy, History and Social Science, and Arts
- Develops rich interdisciplinary content knowledge about the world
- Develops the dispositions and social-emotional competencies needed to thrive in society and life
- Develops the capacity to make informed civic choices and assume their responsibility for strengthening equality, justice, and liberty in the world.

Literacy Plan for Massachusetts
The current Literacy Plan for Massachusetts is called "An Excellent Education in ELA and Literacy for ALL." This document describes the initiatives and projects the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education intends to undertake to work towards our vision of an excellent ELA/Literacy education for EVERY student in Massachusetts.

Civics Opportunity for MA High Schools
Massachusetts high schools are eligible to apply for funding to support and encourage students to register to vote. Please see Fund Code 575 on this page: http://www.doe.mass.edu/grants/current.html. Schools that serve students of voting age are also encouraged to download and share this Voting Infographic with students and families.
