Curriculum Update, February, 2008

The ACLS Web Page on Curriculum Frameworks Has Been Updated!

In addition to the 6 Massachusetts ABE Frameworks and the Common Chapters, a section for curriculum development resources has been added to the Frameworks portion of the ACLS web page: http://www.doe.mass.edu/acls/frameworks/. At this link, you can find the document, "The Basics of Curriculum for ABE / ESOL Programs" in both a narrative form, as well as in a visual form. Also, beginning with February 2008, the Curriculum Update in the ACLS Monthly Mailings will be stored on this page, so they may be found more easily.

Please visit the page again soon to see more resources including a lesson planning section and additional resources for using Curriculum Framework Standards and Benchmarks.

If you have suggestions for what you would find helpful to have on this web page, please let Jane Schwerdtfeger know at janes@doe.mass.edu.

New Edition Published of an Excellent Resource

The Skillful Teacher: Building Your Teaching Skills, by Jon Saphier, Mary Ann Haley-Speca and Robert Gower, has just been reissued in a 2008 edition. The book is published by the Acton, Massachusetts-based organization, Research for Better Teaching. This organization offers professional development as well as a few publications. Many may be familiar with this excellent book in its previous 1997 edition, and this one promises to be equally useful.
