Free National Institute for Literacy Discussion Lists:
We want to share these wonderful and effective free resources with you. The online discussion lists give literacy practitioners and other stakeholders opportunities to discuss the literacy field's critical issues; share information, experiences, and ideas; ask questions of subject experts; and keep up-to-date on literacy issues, including adult basic skills such as reading, writing, and numeracy, English language learning, adult secondary education and transition to post-secondary education.
The Discussion Lists have been used to support a forum for open communication between adult education and literacy providers and researchers, to facilitate reflection, and encourage collaboration with one another. Each discussion list is facilitated by a national organization and/or individual with expertise in the topic area.
Here are some of the benefits practitioners may gain from being part of a discussion list:
- Get answers to your questions
- Find new resources
- Learn about the latest research
- Learn what other teachers are doing in the classroom
- Learn about specific curricula, lesson plan and/or software
- Learn how other teachers are putting research in practice
- Use the list for your own professional development
- Network with colleagues
- Explore new ideas, directions
- Be part of a larger adult education community of practice
If you, your staff and adult education and literacy practitioners in Massachusetts are not subscribed to one or to multiple discussion lists, you can do so quickly and easily by going to:
http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions/subscribe_all.html
Messages from all National Institute for Literacy Discussion Lists are archived for future reference at:

Please share this resource with your staff and with program directors throughout Massachusetts. We encourage the participation of Massachusetts adult education and literacy practitioners on the National Institute for Literacy's Discussion Lists.
